The in-depth study involved in doing a doctorate will qualify PhD students of music education to consolidate and expand their academic careers. Several music academies and universities in Germany and Austria have joined together as partners in a “Consortium of graduate schools for music education”. The qualification consists of four components. 180 credit points are required to graduate, of which 90 credit points can be earned for the doctoral thesis.
Component 1 consists of a modular study program offered jointly by the participating academies and updated each semester. This consists of teaching units in music education pitched at a high academic level with a focus on academic work and research. Exchanges and opportunities for networking allowing doctoral candidates to build up contacts in the academic and professional world will be systematically promoted for all disciplines.
