The bachelor’s program in Classical Voice leads to a first university degree. The program aims to give students a solid grounding in vocal technique on a sound musical basis, enabling them to develop a healthy relationship with their own singing voice. Students also acquire the basic knowledge and skills required to be able to give an appropriate interpretation of various musical styles, together with basic acting skills, proficiency in various areas of movement, stage presence, and an intelligent approach to repertoire appropriate to the student’s own voice. In addition, students receive a grounding in teaching singing, a broad basic knowledge of music theory and musicology, proficiency on the piano, a good knowledge of Italian, and the basics of English and French diction.
In 2011, the study programs in Classical Voice (Concert/Opera) at HfMDK were awarded the Hessian Excellence Prize for university teaching.
