The Program

This postgraduate program is designed for musicians who regard a knowledge of the historical circumstances of the interpretation of music in past centuries as essential for their personal approach to music. This includes both the use of historical instruments from the respective musical epochs and a knowledge of performance practice gained from sources and treatises. The program covers musical styles ranging from the music of the Middle Ages to that of the early 19th century.

The goal is to train musicians who can use their stylistically comprehensive education to pursue a successful career as freelancers on the professional music scene and maintain a steady interest in new discoveries relating to musical interpretation. By teaching students additional playing techniques and further their stylistic abilities and knowledge, the program aims to broaden their professional opportunities as orchestral musicians.

The program offers the following majors: recorder, traverse flute, historic oboe, baroque bassoon/dulcian, natural horn, trumpet, historic violin/viola, baroque cello, viola da gamba, violone/historic double bass, lute, harpsichord, fortepiano, hammerklavier, and organ.
