Matthew Emig was born in West Grove, Pennsylvania, USA and began dancing at the age of four. He trained first at the American Dance Academy in Hockessin, DE, and then at the Brandywine Ballet in West Chester, PA. Matthew went on to become protégé to Scott Jovovich, training at JovoDance under Scott Jovovich and Tara Madsen-Robbins. Matthew has trained with Summer Lee Rhatigan, Bobbi Jene Smith, Doug Letheren, and Tom Weinberger at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance Summer Program, where he learned repertoire from Ohad Naharin’s Virus. In spring 2014 Matthew was privileged with the opportunity to study for three months at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in Antwerp, BE. There he trained with Iniaki Azpillaga (Última Vez), Agostina D’Allesandro, Genevieve van Quaquebeke (Royal Ballet of Flanders), and Natalie Gordon. He went abroad again in spring of 2015 to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, under the direction of Dieter Heitkamp. At HfMDK Matthew worked with Marc Spradling, Andrea Tallis, Nora Kimball, and Regina van Berkel (Frankfurt Ballet) and Iván Perez (NDT). Matthew is currently enrolled at the University of the Arts (UArts) as a BFA Dance major, Musical Theater minor under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield. In his time at UArts he has worked with artists such as Jesse Zaritt, Katie Swords-Thurman, Michael Sheridan, Anne White, Jennifer Binford-Johnson, Christine Cox, and Douglas Becker.
