The Institute of Historical Practice of Interpretation and Performance sees its role as an interdepartmental institution of the HfMDK engaged in up-to-date practice and interpretation of music.

All students may use the teaching facilities and collaboration opportunities offered by the University, and instrumentalists, singers, conductors, church musicians, school musicians and composers are all integrated in diverse projects. The performance of "Early Music" is understood as being one form of contemporary art, with artistic and scientific aspects mingling together.
