Guiding principles

We are a university of the arts engaged in training young performers, teachers and researchers and instilling in them a sense of responsibility for a lively and varied musical and cultural environment. We see it as our task both to promote excellence as well as to support a broader education. It is therefore only logical that equal importance is attached to the training of teachers as to that of artists. An elite can only emerge from a broader public and it is only by filling children with an enthusiasm for the arts, that we can secure the future survival of the arts.

We consider it essential to train our students to a high international level and we offer the prerequisites to achieve this: optimum working conditions together with excellent teachers.

We challenge and encourage our carefully selected students to develop and discover their own artistic personalities through the many opportunities offered. They have the chance to explore their own talent, meet leading artistic personalities and participate in a wide range of courses.

Through cooperation with a number of different institutions, we encourage close links between training and the professional world so that, in their future work as artists, researchers and teachers, our students are able to shape and inspire our musical and cultural life.
