During the re-enrolment period students may ask for leave of absence for important reasons.  The student retains his/her status as enrolled student during leave of absence and is obliged to pay the complete semester fee. A vacation semester does not count as course semester and no proof of academic achievement can be attained during this period.
The application for leave of absence must be made in writing (form obtainable from the Division of Student Affairs - Abteilung für Studentische Angelegenheiten). Any proof required should be attached.

Possible reasons for leave of absence:

  • Illness that makes normal studying impossible (doctor's note must be submitted)
  • Preparation for or passing of a final examination (confirmation of registration for examination required)
  • Course-related placement or period abroad
  • Military or civilian service
  • Maternity leave or child-raising leave

No retrospective leave of absence can be granted after the end of a semester.
