Admission requirements:

In order to be admitted to an audition, applicants have to be generally qualified to enter higher education, as well as having proof of appropriate artistic ability. Eligibility to enter higher education generally means an Abitur certificate or equivalent.  This requirement may be waived if the candidate displays exceptional artistic talent (min. 19 out of a maximum 25 points in the audition). This does not apply to teacher training courses! Artistic talent is determined in an audition (Aufnahmeprüfung).

Deadlines for application:

For the summer semester: December 1 of the previous year
For the winter semester: April 1 of the year applied for

Registration fee:

A fee of 30.00 EUR is due when registering for an audition. This should be paid into the University account:

Please state the purpose of the transfer, your full name and, if you have registered electronically, your application number.
This registration fee is due for each application and for each semester. If you apply for 2 courses or subjects, no further fee is due.
If the audition has to be repeated, the fee is due again.
You should enclose a bank statement or receipt of payment with your application documents as proof of payment. Applications will only be processed when the registration fee has been received.
The fee cannot be refunded. This applies even if you withdraw your application. 

Application procedure:

Registration for the auditions must be made online.
Applications for the summer semester (only possible for the courses in teacher training, young students, composition, repetiteur studies and historical practice of interpretation) may be submitted from October 1 of the previous year.
Applications for the winter semester may be submitted from 1 January in the year you are applying for.
Once you have submitted your application online, you should print the application out and send it together with all necessary documents to

The application for an audition is only legally effective when the printed application (including all necessary documents) and the registration fee of 30.00 EUR have been received.

Please note:
When you apply for a teacher training course or a masters degree in teaching of music, you must also apply to the University of Frankfurt am Main.

Documents to be submitted:

1) Print-out of the online application
2) Recent passport photograph
3) Full curriculum vitae in tabular form
4) School leaving certificate (if this has not yet been issued, you should attach
    the most recent school report)
5) Evidence of all preliminary, intermediate and final examinations passed to
    date
6) Medical certificate from an ear, nose and throat specialist (if applying for the
    main subject vocal studies or acting); the medical certificate should have
    been issued within the last two years
7) Proof of payment of the registration fee (bank statement or receipt of cash
    payment)
8) Evidence of German language competence (only for foreign applicants)
Please submit copies only of all documentation and do not use application folders as these cannot be returned.
